Our History
The Koinonia Foundation was established in 1990 by a caring group from the Koinonia Sunday School class of Wake Forest Baptist Church. Led by Wake Forest developer and businessman Jim Adams, this interdenominational group came together with a shared vision to assist neighbors facing difficult times. Over the years, the Foundation has expanded to welcome all who are committed to helping others, regardless of religious affiliation.
What Koinonia Means
The word Koinonia is Greek and translates to “communion with others through intimate participation.” It is often used in the New Testament, symbolizing fellowship, participation, contribution, and sharing—values that guide our mission.
